HOW THE SSI DIVER STRESS AND RESCUE COURSE WORKS

The SSI Diver Stress and Rescue specialty programme teaches you the skills you need to protect yourself and other divers.
You will learn how to identify stress, how to prevent accidents, and you’ll learn practical techniques to conduct rescues and provide emergency care.
Whether you want to become a professional in the diving industry or just want to become a more confident diver,
this course will give you the confidence and the mindset to be rescue-ready for all situations.

Here at Echo Divers, this is a 2-day course that includes Rescue theory and open water rescue scenarios.

Day 1: Theory & Confined Water Skills

WHO CAN JOIN THE SSI DIVER STRESS AND RESCUE COURSE?

If you’re already certified and want to feel more capable as a diver, this course is a brilliant next step. Here’s what you’ll need before you start.

Certification
You’ll need an Open Water Diver certification (SSI or equivalent from another agency).

First aid requirement
You’ll need a valid first aid qualification from the last 2 years (React Right is perfect for this).

Age
Minimum 12 years old — if you’re unsure about eligibility,
just message us.

Medical
Complete the usual medical questionnaire before training. If anything is flagged, you may need a doctor’s clearance.

How long does the course take?

Most people complete the SSI Diver Stress and Rescue Course across two days. We keep the pace relaxed and adjust around the weather and timing.

What will I learn on the course?

You’ll learn stress recognition, accident prevention, self-rescue skills, and practical techniques for helping other divers — then put it all together in realistic scenarios.

Do I need first aid before I can start?

Yes — you’ll need a valid first aid qualification from the last 2 years. React Right is perfect for this.

What do I need to join?

For you to be able to join the SSI Diver Stress and Rescue Course, you’ll need an Open Water certification (or equivalent), meet the minimum age, complete the usual medical questionnaire and have at least a logged dive in the past 6 months.

Can I fly after my last dive?

The general rule for flying after diving is to wait 12 hours after one dive, and 18 hours after two or more dives. If you went over your no-decompression limits or missed a safety stop on the dive, it is advised to wait 24 hours.

Do I get certified at the end?

Yes — once completed, you’ll earn the SSI Diver Stress and Rescue course certification.
