HOW THE SSI DEEP DIVING SPECIALTY WORKS
The SSI Deep Diving Specialty will teach you all you need to dive to a depth of 40 metres
through a mixture of academic sessions and open water dives.
You’ll learn to plan and safely complete your deep diving adventures, and use computers
and gas consumption calculations to get the most from your deep dives.
Upon completion, you’ll have earned your SSI Deep Diving Specialty certification and be able to explore beautiful deep dive sites wherever you choose. This SSI specialty is also a prerequisite for some advanced technical training, making it the next logical step to take in your dive education.
Day 1
In the morning, we’ll brief and plan on the boat
before completing two deep training dives, then in the afternoon,
we’ll cover the key theory and debrief.
Day 2
One deep training dive focused on planning and awareness,
with the option to add an extra fun or training dive
if you’d like more time in the water.
Who Can Join the SSI DEEP DIVER SPECIALTY?

Certification
You’ll need an Open Water Diver certification (SSI or equivalent).
Age
The minimum age requirement is 15 years old.
Medical
You’ll complete the standard diving medical questionnaire before the course. If anything is flagged, a doctor’s clearance may be required.

How deep will we dive?
This course is designed to build you up to a maximum depth of 40 metres. We don’t rush it — we increase depth gradually, focusing on buoyancy, gas awareness and calm, controlled diving so you feel comfortable as you go deeper.
Is this course safe?
Yes. Everything is planned, explained, and paced properly. We focus on awareness and good decisions, not pushing boundaries or rushing through dives.
DO WE DIVE FROM BOAT OR SHORE?
Most of the Deep Specialty is done from the boat, with full briefings and planning before each dive. We’ll choose sites based on conditions and your comfort level.
How long does the course take?
It’s usually spread over two days. We keep the plan flexible, so dives are done when conditions are right, not just because the schedule says so.
Can I fly after my last dive?
The general rule for flying after diving is to wait 12 hours after one dive, and 18 hours after two or more dives. If you went over your no-decompression limits or missed a safety stop on the dive, it is advised to wait 24 hours.

What if I haven’t dived recently?
That’s not a problem. If you haven’t dived in the past six months, we’ll ask you to do a short scuba review first. It’s simply to make sure you’re comfortable before going deeper, so you get the most out of the course.
