SSI ADVANCED WRECK SPECIALTY IN KOH TAO
Progress beyond basic wreck diving with structured training, planning, and control.
WHY TAKE THE SSI ADVANCED WRECK SPECIALTY AT ECHO DIVERS?
The SSI Advanced Wreck Specialty is about planning, discipline, and control.
It’s designed for divers who already feel comfortable around wrecks and want to move further — carefully and deliberately.
At Echo Divers, advanced wreck training is taught with a strong focus on preparation and decision-making,
so every step feels intentional rather than rushed.

HOW YOUR SSI ADVANCED WRECK SPECIALTY COURSE WORKS
The SSI Advanced Wreck Specialty is one of the most popular specialty programmes on Koh Tao.
We have three different shipwrecks, which are perfect for beginners to start their wreck diving journey.
This course includes one academic session and four open water dives. Dives 1 and 2 focus on exploring the exterior of the wreck, planning your dive, and noting entry and exit points and potential hazards.
On dive 3, you will practise laying a reference line on the outside of the ship.
On dive 4, you’ll enter the wreck using a baseline and practise the skills you’ve learned.
Many of the ocean’s best dive sites are wrecks. These impressive structures attract high densities of marine life and give you the chance to immerse yourself in living history as you dive.
During the course, you will:
Review advanced wreck theory, hazards, and dive planning
Practice guideline and reel techniques in controlled conditions
Learn how to plan and execute limited wreck penetration safely
Complete instructor-led dives with close supervision and clear objectives

Advanced wreck dives are more deliberate and structured.

Every dive is different, depending on the wreck, conditions, and training goals —
but the emphasis is always on control, awareness, and calm decision-making.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need the SSI Wreck Specialty first?
No. This course covers both the core wreck skills and more advanced techniques, all taught progressively.
Is Nitrox a good idea with this course?
Yes. Nitrox works very well alongside Advanced Wreck and is often taken at the same time.
Do conditions affect how the course runs?
Yes. Training is adapted to conditions to keep dives calm, controlled, and appropriate for the day.
Will we go inside a wreck during the course?
Yes. The SSI Advanced Wreck Specialty includes penetration using lines and careful planning, depending on conditions and readiness.
Can I fly after my last dive?
The general rule for flying after diving is to wait 12 hours after one dive, and 18 hours after two or more dives. If you went over your no decompression limits, or missed a safety stop on the dive, it is advised to wait 24 hours.
Do I need any special gear?
No. All essential equipment is provided, and your instructor will talk you through any additional setup used during training.
