Underwater Photography Training

– Capture the underwater world, one dive at a time-

Underwater photography training by Liquid Light Studio

Underwater photography training at Echo Divers Koh Tao is delivered in collaboration with Liquid Light Studio — a professional underwater media studio with experience working across commercial, documentary, and broadcast-level projects.

Based on Koh Tao in the Gulf of Thailand, our courses combine relaxed diving with serious image-making, taught by working professionals who spend as much time shooting underwater as they do teaching.

Whether you’re taking your first steps into underwater photography or refining your technique, this training focuses on real conditions, real dives, and real results.

Our Underwater Photography Training Programs

Training is structured, but never rigid. We adapt sessions to your experience level, camera setup, and goals — whether that’s personal enjoyment, content creation, or professional development.

Wide-Angle Underwater Photography

Over three days, you’ll learn how to capture large underwater scenes using both natural light and strobes.

Training focuses on:
– Composition and framing underwater
– Light positioning and strobe control
– Diver awareness and environmental care
– Shooting reefs, wrecks, and schooling fish effectively

All skills are applied directly during real dives,
not simulated exercises.

Macro Underwater Photography

This course is about patience, precision, and control.

You’ll work on:
– Close-focus techniques
– Lighting small subjects without stress
– Buoyancy and positioning for macro shooting

Improving sharpness, colour, and detail

Guided dives are paired with image review and feedback to help you progress quickly and naturally.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need previous photography experience?

No. Training is adapted to your level, whether you’re using a camera underwater for the first time or already shooting and want to improve.

Is the training physically demanding?

No more than normal recreational diving. Good buoyancy helps, and that’s something we work on during the course.

Can the training be customised?

Yes. Private training is fully tailored, and even group courses are adjusted to the experience of the participants.

Do I need my own camera?

No. All filming and diving equipment is included.
If you already have your own camera and would like to use it, we’re happy to help you set it up and get the most out of it.

Can I fly after my last dive?

The general rule for flying after diving is to wait 12 hours after one dive, and 18 hours after two or more dives. If you went over your no decompression limits, or missed a safety stop on the dive, it is advised to wait 24 hours.
